“We studied exactly how parental age distinction at marriage affected [families’] reproductive success among Sami those who married just once inside their lifetime[s],” says ecologist Samuli Helle of this University of Turku in Finland. “We discovered that marrying females 14.6 years more youthful men that are maximized lifetime reproductive success—in other words, how many offspring surviving to age 18.”
The researchers did this by examining church documents of 700 marriages through the Utsjoki, Inari and EnontekiГ¶ populations through the 17th through nineteenth centuries (to be able to get rid of the outcomes of modern medication on kid survival).
